Trevor Paglen presented his projects and collaborations, which included his current Eyebeam commission. Joined by the Eyebeam Production Fellows, Jeff Crouse, Evan Harper, Geraldine Juárez and Chris Sugrue, his collaborators on his commissioned piece with Eyebeam, Paglen detailed the project and progress to date.

Eyebeam Resident Michael Mandiberg presented a talk and workshop about his new project Real Costs. Attendees were encouraged to bring a laptop to play along. Programming knowledge was useful.

This hybrid talk/workshop included a 30 minute presentation of the project, and how it related to Michael’s previous work, followed by guided modding of the script. Michael provided a focused walk through of the code, and then set everyone free to make some modifications and provided feedback for the project.

A team of multidisciplinary artists based in Jerusalem.

The Sala-manca Group is Lea Mauas and Diego Rotman, Argentine-Israeli artists who have been creating work in performance, video, installation and new media since 2000. Sala-manca’s works deal with the poetics of translation, the tensions between low tech and high tech aesthetics, as well as social and political issues. Read On »

The Upgrade! International

Eyebeam was pleased to host the first gathering of the Upgrade! International.

This event/exhibition was an opportunity to learn from organizers and see work presented in each location, while gaining a sense of the range of manifestations of the Upgrade! model. Participating groups were from: New York, Vancouver, Montreal, Boston, Seoul, Tel Aviv, Munich, Oklahoma City, Istanbul and Chicago. Read On »

This month, painter/programmer/net-artist Mark Napier presented Potatoland.org, his online studio of artwork created for the web.

Conceptually formalist, yet often visually abstract, much of Napier’s work encourages the user to play with the existing parameters of Web content and context via entirely new parameters. Napier’s online tools and environments create participatory, visually stunning, and ultimately fun collages and visual fields laced with commentary on the political and conceptual nature of Web content and architecture.
